Rosetree Blown Glass Studio and Gallery on Algiers Point, Louisiana in the USA

After the incessant activity of New Orleans, Louisiana it was nice to take a quick ferry ride across the Mississippi River to the quiet and historic neighborhood of Algiers Point.  All the hot spots are within walking distance of the dock, so there is little to no need for transportation.  (If you are in New Orleans, you can pick up the Canal Street-Algiers Point Ferry at the end of Canal Street.)

A good portion of the town’s grid is on a diagonal, so giving directions is a little awkward.  We meandered east for a bit until we arrived to an old Art Deco movie house with “Rosetree Blown Glass Studio and Gallery” on its marquee.  It has been transformed into a working blown glass studio.  The furnaces stand where the movie screens once towered.  The lobby has been converted to a gallery displaying various colorful forms.  Windows divide the two parts of the building so that spectators are able to watch the glass blowers perform their skill.  There is also a free, short film that you can watch upon request.

Rosetree Blown Glass Studio and Gallery is an informative, inviting, place to shop for handmade, one-of-kind glass items.  The staff was very friendly and happy to answer questions.  Learn more about this fine establishment by visiting www.rosetreegallery.com.

Like downtown New Orleans, Algiers Point is rich in history and old architecture.  Contrary to New Orleans (at least in December), Algiers Point is wonderfully gentle for the overwhelmed traveler.  Learn more about Algiers Point, Louisiana by visiting www.algierspoint.org and more about its history at www.algiershistoricalsociety.org
