Our Tree House Adventure in Berlin, Ohio

One of the items on my bucket list was to stay in a treehouse.  My husband and I watch “Treehouse Masters” every week.  When I found out about Amish tree houses in Berlin, Ohio I had to make a reservation.  We stayed for one night on this trip, but liked it so much we have already made plans to stay two nights next year.

Amish Country Lodging (www.amishcountrylodging.com), located in the heart of Amish country (south of Cleveland and north of Columbus, Ohio), has seven treehouses to choose from.   Treehouses 1-3 can sleep up to six people and 4-7 sleeps two people.

Tree house #3 is breathtaking. We strolled through the woods down a long walkway to its front door and put our code in (that’s right – you call in advance to get a code and that is the key to your adventure).  It has three stories and a playroom for children.  We entered in to a beautiful kitchen that had everything a cook would ever need.  Then we moseyed into the living room that has leather couch and chair and a huge fireplace with a big screen TV.

The tree house's kitchen has the tools you'll need, including refrigerator, stove, running water and electricity.

You can walk out onto a beautiful covered deck (there are two decks on this treehouse) and sit down on comfortable Amish-made furniture or eat outside on an Amish-made table and chairs.  A queen-size bed awaits you on the first floor as well as a gorgeous bathroom with a Jacuzzi for two.  I tried out the Jacuzzi, but put too much bubble bath in and was engulfed in bubbles – My nickname is now “Bubbles.”

The second floor as another bathroom and more sleeping quarters.

Wind your way up a spiral wooden staircase to the second floor where there is an additional queen-size bed, flat screen TV and two single beds.  The beds are so comfortable. There also is another full bathroom on the second floor.  The view from every window is trees, trees, trees.

We had already decided that we did not want to leave the treehouse except to make a fire and roast marshmallows.  We brought our own food to prepare meals and, of course, items for cocktail hour.  It was rather chilly at the end of August, so we had the gas fireplace going.  We did put on our coats and enjoyed the deck outside too.  You could not hear a sound.  It was so quiet.

As I mentioned before, we were so pleased with the tree house experience that we are planning on going back next year for two days.  That way we won’t mind leaving the treehouse for some excursions, such as the Amish Comedy Club http://amishcountrytheater.com/  or the newly built Ohio Star Theater http://www.dhgroup.com/theater

Some of my favorite things to do in Amish country is to visit:

Wendell August Forge - “Wendell August is America’s oldest and largest forge. Founded in 1923, a rich history still sings with every strike of our hammers amid the chorus of crackling forge fires. It’s our pleasure to craft these treasured heirlooms, a legacy from our family to yours (https://www.wendellaugust.com/ )”

Amish Country Essentials - This store is owned by a soap maker.  They feature essential-oil products that help prevent colds and some products relieve pain from arthritis.  Plus, it just smells so good in there.  Even my husband loves the place and buys soap (http://amishcountryessentials.com/).

Pleasant View Furniture – this is an Amish furniture store that we have purchased most of our oak furniture from.  They hand make furniture to your specifications at a very fair rate.

Keim Lumber – This is a huge lumber company in Charm, Ohio but it is so much more than that.  It is a man’s dream (and actually I love it too).  They have a clearance section where I often find nicely priced items.  If you are into solar lights, that is the place to go.

Berlin, Ohio is full of stores.  You could spend all day just in Berlin. (Women, leave your husbands at the tree house.)

It was sad to leave the tree house, but since we will be returning next year, it gives us something to look forward to.  Everyone I mention this tree house to is surprised that it exists so close to home and is reasonably priced.  For four people, we paid a little over $300.  That was a great price for the luxury we experienced and to feel the sway of the trees as we sat on the deck.
